Originally, I had no plans to use glass in this painting. After pouring tar gel on the surface in abstract, random fashion, the medium was allowed to dry. Then acrylic paint was added and later, metallic touches, to give it sparkle. The glass in the center created the feeling of an explosion of life, and a feeling of positive energy. And so marked the very first "creation" of the series...as well as my signature use of vivid, colorful glass pressed into acrylic paint. The touch of metallic gold truly makes this debut piece appear to be brilliant beginning.
I can see this painting in a modern living room. The warm oranges, yellows and golds provide a feeling of warmth and energy.
Dimensions: 24" x 48" Cost: $550
“Acqua” was borne of thoughts of the sea and sea foam. The feeling it conveys to me is peaceful and soothing; the glass beads add texture, and the suggestion of the invigorating nature of the ocean.
“Acqua” would be beautiful in a pastel colored or white bedroom.

The romantic, cascading purple petals of the wisteria vine are simply stunning. To me, the flowers are reminiscent of grapes on the vine. Painting “Wisteria” helped me recall old Tuscan walls covered with wisteria as well as other memories of a journey to northern Italy years ago. It is reminiscent of a dining setting of colorful linens and rose goblets on a natural wood table, overlooking the charming village of Lucca at sunset.
This dreamy painting would look beautiful in a room furnished in a more traditional manner. A living room or bedroom would be the perfect setting for this work.

It has often been said that artists create their most creative work when touched with sadness. Such was my mood when I began this piece, and I believe the depth of my feelings are reflected in this work. I have always love weeping willows, and wanted this work to be more representational than most of my other work. First, I applied multiple applications of molding paste and color. To create the feeling of bark, I layered and sculpted molding paste painted in many shades of brown. Fine shreds of paper gave the work texture. Finally, I chose to brighten the tree with yellow and orange, plus gold accents, Italian pebbles, and layers of 24K gilding.
This beautiful tree would complement both modern and traditional settings, and also is suitable for a long wall, as in a hallway.

This painting is based on a still-life in my studio that consisted of a small crystal candle-holder, pink glass grapes, a lace doily, a porcelain Edna Hibel doll, and a lamp that had been in the home of a favorite aunt. I started with the lamp and grapes, adding images that simply felt right. Finally I added the gold veining to emphasize the delicacy that the antique lamp had always suggested to me.
“Inheritance” would be a lovely addition to a small entryway, alcove, or hallway.
Dimensions: 20" x 24" Cost: $475
This painting was originally born on a summer afternoon on a garden deck in a forest. In the intense heat, a can of purple paint was tipped over, and poured down a blank canvas, creating an intriguing impression. And a "beautiful oops" came to life...to me, the marriage of purple, yellow and red is a natural combination—in this case, accented with gold metallic paint. The sharp purple glass added the cutting quality of intense passion. A heavy gloss brought out the brilliant colors.
This painting represents the essence of excitement and passion, and would bring life to any contemporary room.

While my designs tend to be free-flowing abstracts and floral designs, “Indigo” was painted to reflect the exact, architecturally-inspired works that my father used to paint. The pallet takes its colors from nature—the blue of water and the yellow of the sun.
“Indigo” would look striking in a contemporary setting, and especially dramatic on a dark wall.
Dimensions: 20" x 20" Cost: $350
I was in the mood to create flowers, and applied white molding paste, using yellow to bring an element of sunshine. I placed glass in the centers, and then used the same glass to pile on the “grass,” creating depth and dimension.
“Primavera,” an outdoorsy, happy springtime expression, would be at home in a sunny kitchen that has similar color accents.
Dimensions: 18" x 36" Cost: $375
I was drawn to the square shape of this canvas, and to its deep side edges. I gently applied modeling paste to the surface of the stylized rose petals, before painting them in shades of pink, to add dimension. Gold was the perfect accent for the warm color palette.
A small three-dimensional painting like “Spring Blossoms” is an ideal addition to a small corner of a personal space, like a bedroom, dressing room, or bath.

For this painting, I used several types of gel of varying viscosities, and the colors sapphire and amethyst. The “rings” are made of thick, opaque tar gel. After painting the undertones, I used heavy sandpaper, to bring back some areas of the original canvas, and added more color. The metallic accents combine both silver and gold. Mulberry and dusty blueberry-colored glass give the work shine and additional texture.
A markedly contemporary piece, “Eternal Rings” would be at home in a large setting, perhaps over a sectional sofa of complementary colors, or on the wall above a modern glass dining room table or a sleek buffet.

“Snow-covered tundra, windblown, misty, white wonderland” were the words my daughter, Jennifer, used to describe her vision of a painting that would be a perfect contrast for a wall painted in a deep gem tone in her new, New England period home.
Heavy, opaque, white marble stones seemed like the ideal medium to illustrate the feeling of snow. A touch of silver accented the white and brought the snowy scene to life.
“Arctic Vision” would energize any contemporary setting, particularly on a deep, richly colored background.

I had grown up with a dogwood tree right outside my bedroom window, and I’ve always had affection for this particular blossom. The painting was actually inspired by a dogwood tree that now blooms in my garden. The work also reflects the continuation of the wrap-around concept that I find myself using with more frequency.
The soft, pastel colors of the dogwood flowers would provide a sense of relaxation in a dining room or bedroom.

This painting was inspired by the wonderful response I received when I painted Spring Blossoms a year earlier. I loved the idea of using a deep canvas to make a three-dimensional look. I also love looking at the Gerbera daisies that bloom in my own garden. To me, this is such a happy picture. The Welcome Spring feeling seems to jump right off the canvas.
This cheery and colorful painting would be a great spirit-lifter when placed in a kitchen or family room where everyone can see it.
Dimensions: 8" x 8" Cost: $175
The idea for "Roses" came one day when I was gazing at a crystal vase on my coffee table. As the crystal caught the setting sun, I envisioned a tall glass piece in shades of turquoise. Long-stem roses seemed a natural addition to the elegant vase.
I can see this painting as a delightful part of the décor in a sunroom, or in a contemporary dining area.
Dimensions: 16" x 40" Cost: $475
Long ago, I painted a small oil on canvas depicting a field of brilliant red poppies. It has always been a favorite of mine, and I longed to recreate this work in a stylized, dramatic way. This version places the giant blossoms against a starry night sky, to add to the visual impact.
“Midnight Poppies” would be a spectacular addition in a contemporary or modern setting, particularly one with a bold color scheme.

During the late days of summer, I found myself thinking about water, and the ocean, in particular. So just before dusk, one evening, I began to sketch. The shiny metallic blue represents the joy of the sea; the shine was achieved using a new type of acrylic paint that offers brilliant coverage and effect.
“Blue Water Flowers” is a bright work that seems to simulate motion. It would certainly add life to a family room or any place in which family and friends gather.
Dimensions: 24" x 24" x 3" Cost: $475
This painting marked my first use of heavy layers of crackle paste and gel medium to capture the depth and feeling of water and its reflection. I added color, then layers of gel of different viscosities.
I saw the painting as a pond, and then created the shadows and lily pads, plus the small yellow water plants that naturally live in shallow freshwater ponds.
“Reflections” evokes the peace of a country setting, and would be at home in a traditional room, perhaps one with a traditional French feeling.
Dimensions: 18" x 24" x 2" Cost: $350
The creation of “Bubbles” marked the first time I used metallic ink for accents in my work. The bubbles, which originally were formed by pouring tar gel in circular patterns, had initially been painted pink. I felt that they needed the metallic touch that the silver paint would add.
“Bubbles” is all about fun. It would be a delightful, whimsical addition to a little girl’s room, or a dressing room.
Dimensions: 12" x 12" x 2" Cost: $175
“Asian Impression” came about after I had spent the afternoon poring through collections by my favorite artist, Edna Hibel. I adore her use of vivid color, delicate form, and gold accents. The result was a combination of vibrant complementary colors, gold paint, and the rich warmth of deep brown glass. The abstract pen marks evoke a feeling of Asian calligraphy.
“Asian Impression” could be ideal in a setting that has an Asian feeling, or any formal setting that would benefit from an infusion of brilliant color.
Dimensions: 18" x 36" Cost: $350
“Sandy Beaches” is my only work to date that combines tissue paper with a special glazing material. Polished mother-of-pearl and brown onyx stones, gold paint, and tiny glass beads in opaque gel created the textured backdrop reminiscent of the sandy seashore. The semi-transparent sea glass was actually retrieved during a walk along the beach.
The distinctly contemporary feeling of “Sandy Beaches” makes this painting perfect for a beach house or any room with an open, airy atmosphere.

Just before my Sweet Sixteen party many years ago, I recieved an unexpected delivery of magnificent fresh flowers from family friends. Since then, one of my favorite suprises has always been receiving such a special gift. The vibrant colors of blossoms poking out of a delicately wrapped tissue and ribbon package are pure delight. In planning a new work, I kept returning to my vision of a bouquet of brilliant purple flowers amidst long green stems. A collage of pink tissue paper on a roughened, sage green surface, polished matte finish and mettalic accents, dusty rose glass, and real dried rosebuds, came together to create my impression.
"Bouquet! Bouquet!" is a piece that inspires happiness and joy in a simple, yet stunning element in nature- wildflowers. This artwork which is combines both traditional and contemporary elements, would be a charming accompaniment to a small, vertical space above a delicate commode or accent table.

RoseGold Confection originally started as a bare canvas upon which I poured thick tar gel. By accident, I dropped something upon the surface before it was fully dry, and in lifting it, I scraped the surface. What was created resembeld a tear on the surface of a plastic bag. Not unusual in the creation of art, I liked the "mistake", and it became the inspiration of the piece. Adding more "tears", I layered several more pourings of tar gel, scraping and ripping, using natural sea sponges and metal tools. As I added color and metallic touches, and finally contrasting aqua colored glass on the rose and gold work, the piece took on the feeling of candy confection with a sharp contemporary impression. It reflects my most favorite colors of all.
This warm, vibrant piece would be stunning in a contemporary setting, or as a warm accent piece, juxtaposed in an ecclectic way in a more traditional home.

This celebration of birth was created as a gift for my beloved grandson, Carter Joseph Goltche. A beautiful cherub, Carter was named for my father, Joseph David Perlstein. Tar gel burnished with silver metallic paint outline the balloons; three of the floating balloons are three-dimensional by the addition of molding paste, and the largest is made of clear cellophane that has been laquered. The celestial background sky has fine sand additive mixed in with the acrylic paint, and snow white tulle bows tie the floating bubbles as they reach for the sky. Baby blue and periwinkle glass make the final touch on this happy, juvenile creation. Carter's nursery is now adorned with this happy impression of floating balloons in a blue sky.
This painting is a quintessential addition to a newborn nursery. The feeling is pure elation and whimsy.

This complex impression of multiple shades of green, white, scarlet, highlighted with metallic accents of both copper and platinum, marks the most unusual creation in my collection to date. The surface of this oversize, custom canvas was first primed with white gesso. Following this, were added thick layers of crackle paste, up to 3/4 of an inch in some places. Set to dry, untouched, in an arid venue, the surface slowly peeled away in sections; wherever the layer of crackle paste was thicker, the material had eased away most from the gessoed surface. The result was an irregular, cracked surface that lookes like pieces of eggshells glued to the surface, interspersed with the impression of natural alligator skin. Layers of watered-down color were added, which bled into the cracks in the surface. First lighter tones were added, followed by deeper shades and metallics, and finally red accents. The resulting surface is extremely sculpted and highly varied throughout the four foot by nine foot canvas. The addition of scarlet red natural stones gives a punch of contrasting color against the background, and the result is nothing short of spectacular!
This painting has a contemporary feeling and a highly unusual surface that would accent a modern or contemporary room with warm shades of green, brown, white, scarlet red, with metallic accents of copper and platinum.

“Australia”
The inspiration for this creation was born of a late summer spent with my daughter on the beaches of Queensland, Australia. When we first arrived in the tropical north of this exotic land, one of my first observations were the amazing and massive “sand sculptures” that characterized the surfaces of every beach that we visited. From the distance, it appeared that the sand was decorated with sweeping circular floral patterns; upon closer inspection, one could see that these incredible impressions were actually evidence of the plethora of sand- bubbler crabs that inhabit the beaches of the Indo-Pacific region of the Southern Hemisphere. During low tide, the diminutive species exit their burrows to scour the sand for tiny bits or organic debris in a radial motion. While eating, the crabs ball the excess sand on their heads, then discard it when it gets too big for them to see over- leaving behind a remarkable reminder, which helps them keep from looking for food in the same sand twice. These snack remnants create majestic and magnificent sand art, varying in size and design. The creations were so impressive to me that I knew instantly I would return home to recreate what nature does so easily. With organic sand gel as a base, the addition of the impressions of the spiky, thin feet of the birds that cohabit the shores of this Pacific paradise, and signature glass and metallic touches, “Australia” came to life.
This unique recreation of a South Pacific tropic would be an ideal addition to a beach house, or any whitewashed interior that is filled with lots of sunlight and casual vibes.

Originally created as a birthday gift for a close friend, “Peacock” employs a multitude of impressions reminiscent of the glorious colors of the bird that bears this name. Sacrosanct to the Hindu faith, the blue peacock is a stunning bird that is unique to Sri Lanka and India. The painting, with shades ranging from indigo through deep aubergine, turquoise, light aqua, and silvery white, is a joyful expression of the beauty of this magnificent animal. Real feathers gathered from the ground after natural moulting, are part of this creation, as are signature touches of blue-green glass and metallic accents.
“Peacock” would embellish any contemporary home décor. It would be especially dramatic against a light colored wall, as a small accent piece, perhaps in an alcove, or small corner, above a miniature metallic chest.
Dimensions: 8” x 8” Cost: $325
This artwork was begun as a gift for a relative. It was inspired by the concept of a tropical jungle, the colors and light and intricacies that characterize the profusion of color and shape within this natural setting. Neutrals, taupe, amber and glints of magenta and turquoise intermix with splashes of white and chartreuse. The mettalic accents are a combination of pewter and burnished gold. The overall effect is contemporary, evoking the passion, heat, and energy in the tangles of a rainforest.
“Splatter” would embellish any contemporary home décor. It would be dramatic against either a light or a dark-colored wall, and would look particularly attractive above furniture with simple, clean lines.
Dimensions: 24” x 24” x 3" Cost: $675
"Tangerine"
Like so many of my pieces, this piece was personally commissioned. Keeping the color scheme of her home in mind, I sought to create a brilliant contemporary work that would accent the deep gold and greens in her dining area. The idea of adding a punch of bright orange was intended to add a contrasting hue and a sense of fun to the artwork. The idea of naming it "Tangerine" seemed apt after the warm peach and orange tones were painted on. In a traditional home, this piece is paradoxically in its element, and yet stands apart for its whimsical and playful quality.
"Tangerine" is a concept that can be commissioned, and would enhance an interior of any style. Its bold colors would make it an excellent choice for a dark or light wall, and its "busy" feeling would work particularly well over a simple server or low, clean-line table.
